The Musical Theatre Certificate Level I Certificate (formerly Musical Theatre Certificate) is designed to prepare the student for entry-level performance competency in the field of Musical Theatre and lead to specific areas of employment in musical theater production as well as television, theme parks, cruise ships and education. Related career opportunities include, but are not limited to performer, dancer, singer, director and choreographer. This certificate requires a total of 20.5-25 units. A grade of C or better is required in each course taken.

Outcome 1: Analyze, interpret and evaluate the historical contributions of musical theatre composers, choreographers, performers, lyricists, producers, and librettists to gain a culturally responsive historical perspective of musical theatre.
Outcome 2: Analyze, select and apply specific skills in singing, acting and dance to develop foundational auditioning skills for musical theatre.
Outcome 3: Demonstrate and interpret ensemble-based rhythms, music theory and sight singing skills through vocal exercises and musical theatre literature in order to establish foundational skills for music rehearsals within a musical production.
Outcome 4: Formulate script analysis, peer performance evaluations, and theatrical production critiques for the purpose of effectively communicating critical analysis of musical theatre performances.
