The Scoring, Music Production, and Sound Design Certificate is a rigorous, four-semester program designed for students committed to creating original music in contemporary genres. This 16-unit certificate program immerses students in music production within a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment alongside peers in film, video game, and television production. Tailored for students with demonstrated skills in music production (evaluated through a portfolio), the program ensures participants stay current with industry-standard tools and techniques used in music, video, and gaming. Throughout the course, students will focus on composing music for multimedia applications and explore the intricacies of sound design. Program Level Student Learning Outcomes
Outcome 1: Produce music in a variety of genres using virtual instruments and digital audio workstations.
Outcome 2: Evaluate and examine the importance of Music and Sounds in order to enhance the information communicated by visual media and application and apply the findings to musical cues.
Outcome 3: Compose and create Music using a sample library within a digital audio workstation as well as creating sampled instruments for the cues.
Outcome 4: Create a Music Video, Dance Video or Short Film and create post production and music for it or collaborate with other students in the program.
Outcome 5: Design, write and create a cue or pieces of interactive music for a Video Game.
Outcome 6: Produce a demo reel (edit, mix, and master) and publish it to social media.
Outcome 7: Create and compose a short orchestral cue based on a historical music genre.
