Transfer Degree Graduation Requirement
An Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) or an Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) degree may be granted upon the completion of 60 CSU transferable units and fulfillment of the following specific requirements:
- Satisfactory completion of at least 12 semester units of study in residence at Fullerton College or Cypress College.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 must be maintained in all degree-applicable courses.
- Satisfactory completion of 18 or more units and all requirements for a major or area of emphasis. Each course counted toward the major or area of emphasis must be completed with a grade of “C” or better, or of “P” if the course is taken on a “pass-no pass” basis.
- Completion of an approved intersegmental lower-division general education pattern used for transfer to the University of California or the California State University including:
- Cal-GETC (link to this pattern)
- CSU GE Breadth**
- IGETC**
**Note: Students may only use CSU GE Breadth or IGETC toward an AA-T or AS-T if they enrolled at a California Community College or California State University (CSU) and maintained continuous attendance prior to Fall 2025. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with a counselor for a determination of their eligibility for IGETC or CSU GE Breadth.
ADT in Chemistry or Biology
Students pursuing an ADT in Biology or Chemistry may complete CSU GE for STEM or IGETC for STEM if they enrolled at a California Community College or California State University (CSU) and maintained continuous attendance prior to Fall 2025.
NOTE: Deferred lower division courses must be replaced with calculus and/or science courses required by the major before transfer
NOTE: CSU and IGETC for STEM completion does not qualify students for the CSU or IGETC Certificate of Achievement.
There are no additional graduation requirements for AA-T or AS-T degrees.
Transfer Limitations
Students transferring to a CSU campus that does accept the specific AA-T or AS-T earned as preparation for a similar major will be granted priority admission, and will be required to complete no more than 60 units after transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree (unless the major is a designated “high-unit” major, see specific degree requirements for more information where this applies).
These degrees may not be the best option for students intending to transfer to a particular CSU campus or to a university or college that is not part of the CSU system. Students should consult with a counselor when planning to complete the degree for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.
The Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (Senate Bill 1440, now codified in California Education Code sections 66746-66749) guarantees admission to a California State University (CSU) campus for any community college student who completes an “associate degree for transfer,” a newly established variation of the associate degrees traditionally offered at a California community college. The Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) or the Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) degrees are intended for students who plan to complete a bachelors degree in a similar major at a CSU campus. Students completing these degrees (AA-T or AS-T) are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major.
