The Hearing Reporter Certificate provides the student with the necessary knowledge, skills, and background to work in the field of convention reporting, hearing reporting, police department reporting, congressional reporting, and related fields. To earn a certificate, the required courses as listed with a grade of C or better. At least 50% of all course work must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 25 units.

Program Student Learning Outcomes:

OUTCOME 1: Acquire the workforce preparation, abilities, and stenographic skills to record hearings in the state of California working with police departments, the Office of Administrative Hearings, legislative reporting, convention reporting, and related fields. Particular emphasis is put on Jury Charge and Congressional Record practice material. Students may pursue the goal of becoming a licensed hearing reporter in the state of California, or they can work for an agency specializing in hearing reporting without a license. These skills are necessary to work as a hearing reporter.
