ARTH C1100 Survey of Art from Prehistory to the Medieval Era 3 Units

Advisory: Completion of college-level composition (ENGL C1000, C1000H, ENGL C1000E/C-ID ENGL 100) or equivalent or ESL 110 C

(formerly: ART 111 C, Survey of Art History I.) Term hours: 54 lecture. This course introduces students to visual art and architecture from prehistory to the medieval era with a focus on art from Europe, North Africa, and the near East. The course will further consider global interactions involving these regions. This course studies the development of ancient and medieval architecture, sculpture, and painting in Western culture. Emphasis is placed on examining how art records and shapes history, how style communicates the ideas of the artist and his culture and how symbols, techniques, materials and subjects are used and transferred from one culture to another. ARTH C1200 Survey of Art from the Renaissance to Contemporary 3 Units

Advisory: Completion of ENGL C1000 (ENGL C1000) or ENGL C1000H (ENGL C1000H) or ENGL C1000E (ENGL C1000E) or ESL 110 C

(formerly: ART 112 C, Survey of Art History II). Term Hours: 54 lecture. This course provides an overview of art and architecture from the Renaissance to the contemporary period with a focus on art from Europe. The course will further consider global interactions involving this region. This course studies the development of architecture, sculpture, and painting of the Western world from the Renaissance through the Nineteenth century. Emphasis is placed on examining how art records and shapes history, how style communicates the ideas of the artist and their culture, and how symbols, techniques, materials, and subjects are used and transferred from one culture to another. ARTH C1200H Survey of Art from the Renaissance to Contemporary - Honors 3 Units

Advisory: Completion of ENGL100 C or ENGL C1000E or ESL 110 C

(formerly: ART 112HC, Honors Survey of Art History II.) Term hours: 54 lecture. This course provides an overview of art and architecture from the Renaissance to the contemporary period with a focus on art from Europe. The course will further consider global interactions involving this region. This is an honors course. This is an enhanced course that studies the development of architecture, sculpture, and painting of the Western world from the Renaissance through the twenty-first century. Emphasis is placed on examining how art records and shapes history, how style communicates the ideas of the artist and their culture, and how symbols, techniques, materials, and subjects are used and transferred from one culture to another.
